💬Case no. 1: The best game in the world
The Linden Street Detectives are in their clubhouse. Cookie the dog is asleep under the table.
‘Cubehaven is the best game in the world. That’s a fact!’ shouts Linh.
‘No, it isn’t,’ Leo frowns. ‘Drawing comics is the best. That’s a fact!’
Emma opens her notebook. ‘Wait. Which of you is right?’
Can they both be right? Or neither of them? Let’s solve it together.
Fact or opinion?
A fact can be checked. You can count it, measure it or find it in a book.
An opinion says what someone thinks. Or what they like.
‘Cubehaven has 20 levels.’ That’s a fact. You can count the levels.
‘Cubehaven is the best game.’ That’s an opinion. Leo prefers comics.
Words like best, awesome or boring almost always give away an opinion.
Everyone can have an opinion. It’s fine to think differently. But an opinion must not dress up as a fact.

- 3When did we have different opinions? Was that a problem?
Tip for the teacher
Try this at dinner: one person says a sentence, the others guess whether it’s a fact or an opinion. Show your child that adults have different opinions too – and that this is fine.
✓ Mission complete!
At home, children can play it again – with their parents, for example. Free and without an account.
